The key to "our green" is Takeform's substrate or core. We call it Green209. Green209 is a natural fiber product sourced from certified managed forests that utilize sustainable management practices. It is a fiber reinforced thermoset composite (97% lignocellulosic wood fiber) and organic thermoset resin (less than 3% by weight). The resin is added for dimensional stability. The resin is a furfural/carbolic acid mixture – once cured, the mixture is inert. The fibers and resin are compressed under high pressure and temperature to yield a dimensionally stable material with a desirable combination of strength and flexibility.
Why is this important? Because the high pressure laminates and veneers that we utilize as face materials are - like Green209- also thermoset composites and therefore affected by temperature and moisture in a similar way. The result is a sign that does not curl, warp or delaminate. So Takeform signs last longer, almost forever.
In contrast, other sign manufacturers will substitute acrylic or expanded PVC for Green209. These materials are thermo plastics and behave differently with changes in temperature and moisture. Because these dissimilar materials do not expand and contract in unison, the acrylic and laminate will quickly curl, warp and separate.
