Takeform partners with interior design firm to give trade school a fresh, edgy vibe
In an era when cities want new business ventures and skilled workers in high-demand fields, Oklahoma City trade school Francis Tuttle Technology Center is making strides with both.
Its newest campus, in the suburb of Edmond, has an entrepreneurship focus with spaces designed to foster creative thinking, experimentation, and collaboration.
The new, 155,000-square-foot, two-story facility is home to several programs as well as a small business incubator, a makerspace, and conference space for business community gatherings. And when it came time to design such a forward-thinking space, Takeform was there to partner with the school's interior design firm to create inspiring visual experiences throughout.

Partnering with a design firm.
Highlighting professions. Celebrating entrepreneurs. Cultivating curiosity. To create a visual experience that would reflect the new center's brand, interior design firm A-Line Designs began with the requisite homework: a conversation.
“Our design team sat down with the client and listened to their story," says A-Line's Paige Sheller. “What were their goals? What was the desired vibe?"

"It's a school that focuses on creating small businesses and entrepreneurs.
So, we did our homework, then dove right in, working closely with Takeform Project Coordinator Rahema Quddus to bring it all to life in an orderly way."

Custom fabricated clear acrylic panels and wall-to-wall Amplify wallcovering highlighting the school's Board of Education members and core values.

A big welcome. Amplified.
Visitors entering through the lobby are greeted with an expansive installation of Amplify custom wallcovering with accents of Ethos dimensional letters. The two products can be seen paired throughout the space highlighting inspirational quotes, and the school's vision, mission and values.

Keeping things on track.
With a hard deadline (the facility's grand opening) and many moving parts, the design firm relied on Takeform not only to execute flawlessly but also to coordinate a multi-phased project.

The school's makerspace features suspended dimensional lettering that forms keywords to reinforce the vibe.
Phase 1–our top priority—involved all the elements that had to be ready for the grand opening," Sheller says.
“Next: what did we need to have ready for when students start classes? Then we moved on to the back-of-the-house stuff: private offices and testing spaces. And phase 4 involved completing rentable space for entrepreneurs." Rahema and Sr. Experiential Graphic Designer Umaira Habib helped A-Line keep things moving.

“I stayed in direct contact with them and then shared direction with our design department," Quddus says. “And I'd get a lot of input from production. We'd often sit down and figure out how to make sure everything went out on time."

Translating concept into reality.
Designers excel at generating scores of ideas and sketching the raw concepts quickly. What they need is a partner that can both transform loose sketches into realistic renderings and later make them a reality.

In the final renderings, Takeform showed how key messages would be complemented by hexagonal patterns and topical photography to create a sense of inspiration and creativity throughout the space.

"It was a pleasure creating a vibrant learning environment for such an innovative and forward-thinking school."
- Umaira Habib, Sr. Experiential Graphic Designer, Takeform

“You can't take raw sketches to the client because they'll have trouble turning on that TV in their head," Sheller says. “Takeform is really good at creating realistic renderings, then we could discuss specific details about them with the client, like making a color darker, adding a glow, adding lighting here or there."

Creating realistic renderings for the design firm made their client relationship easier by helping the client visualize the execution—and tweak it before it was produced.
“When you work with Takeform, you can literally create whatever you want—as long as you're willing to be brave. Takeform has a ton of resources and materials. And it's all about playing—getting in there, getting creative, and throwing around all kinds of ideas. Pushing the limits."
- Paige Sheller, A-Line Designs
