The Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA)—a longtime Takeform client—is a state agency founded in 1935 that runs three hydroelectric facilities and two reservoirs in northeast Oklahoma and serves Oklahoma municipalities, electric cooperatives, and industrial customers, as well as off-system customers across a four-state region. Oklahoma's largest public power utility, GRDA employs 500+ people; its operating revenue was $668 million in 2022.

GRDA recently built a three-story, 47,000 square-foot, $16.3 million Administrative Center in Chouteau, OK, to consolidate resources and employees across numerous sites. With inviting materials like Terrazzo flooring, wood paneling on ceilings and walls, and a modern, open feel, the new facility needed an equally special touch when it came to graphics and signage. GRDA came to Takeform looking for a fresh look for the new space.

Planning
GRDA provided Takeform with their floor plan, and the team did an initial pass-through to evaluate the space. Next, we made recommendations for the sign types and sign placement.
Meanwhile, Takeform's Oklahoma representative monitored the developing space continually to keep the team apprised of décor and furnishing decisions, so we could recommend elements that would complement GRDA's aesthetic selections and practical needs.

Design
Takeform presented three design concepts to GRDA, and after they selected their favorite, we went through the refinement process to get the designs just right. The client chose a direction they felt best complemented the color palette, furniture, and overall feel of the building. The new building features visual elements that evoke flowing water, and Takeform carried that theme through in our signage and palette.
Online Design Tool
GRDA loved working with our customer-centered online design tool, the Oomph Visualizer, part of our Oomph product line. Accessible through our website, this user-friendly tool lets clients experiment with different looks in different spaces while giving them more involvement in the creative process.

Wayfinding
Given the simple intuitive layout of the new building, wayfinding was not one of the first priorities for GRDA. But for the pieces the client did need, Takeform is provided wayfinding signage for the space to complement the office signage system. Wayfinding signs feature the same acrylic backers with individual magnetic pieces, making it easy to rearrange as GRDA grows and evolves.

Fabrication
One of the highlights of our contribution was in the building's central atrium, which features a custom timeline wall displaying milestones in GRDA's 88-year history.
While the end result was striking—and impeccable. Due to design nuances, getting the legibility of the display right took iterations and testing. Takeform continued to refine our manufacturing process to address the issue. One of the upsides of our design-build model is that we can adapt and make real-time adjustments to our processes with minimal effect on schedule and budget, especially when it comes to custom solutions.

Interior Signage | Fusion
Not your average room IDs, these acrylic-back pieces combined with a magnetic feature provide the client with the ideal balance between conveying organizational stability and easy updatability. All the nameplates are magnetic, so they're easy to update by ordering new ones, yet they have the look of permanent signage. Simple, on-brand directory signage provides clear, bold indicators for each building's wings.

Wall Accessories | Additions
Accessories like this sanitizer station complement the rest of the system Takeform created for GRDA because Additions features the same finishes and design aesthetic as our signage platforms. So, all of the final touches GRDA could need for their facility—from wall organizers to message boards to infection control—are not only ready to go, they're designed to complement their décor.

Recognition Display | Applaud
The new space features a GRDA Board of Directors wall display built from Takeform's Applaud product line, which provides a polished, dignified way to acknowledge the board, while being easy to update as new faces join or longtime members retire.

Dimensional Letters
and Logo | Ethos
For a sense of permanence and elegance, the brand installation and Board of Directors wall both feature Ethos to provide the dimensional logo and lettering.

Graphic Acoustic
Panels
| Oomph
GRDA specified Oomph Acoustic Design Elements for various creative graphic elements that give the added benefit of improved acoustics. They discovered another advantage, too: Oomph added the visual elements they needed while proving to be a budget-friendly alternative to the more costly bespoke design elements they had considered.
GRDA appreciated this affordable alternative to their original plan—and they were able to make the design decisions themselves with Takeform's online
Oomph Visualizer.

GRDA specified Oomph wall panels with push-thru patterns to add dimensional interest to their spaces. The geometric shapes provide subtle visual texture through their shadows and highlights.

Timeline Display | Custom
As the centerpiece of the facility's main atrium, the GRDA timeline installation features acrylic graphic panels with button stand-offs that add a high-end exhibit feel.

Powering up the fun
GRDA is partnering with Siloam Springs, AR, on WOKA Whitewater Park, an adventurous new destination for kayakers, surfers, and tubers. And Takeform is on board, working with GRDA to outfit it with graphics and a GRDA timeline wall in the park's pavilion. Stay tuned for photos when the space debuts and see visitwoka.com for a peek.
