PROJECT HIGHLIGHT
Liberty Mountain Resort
An even greater escape
Pennsylvania getaway turns to Takeform
to unify—and dial up—their distinctive charm
When Liberty Mountain Resort acquired Carroll Valley golf course and expanded their facilities, the owners decided it was a golden opportunity to rebrand their entire Fairfield, Pennsylvania destination.
One of the pleasures of hitting the slopes—or the green—is the time spent between outings. For skiers and golfers, spaces like a lodge or clubhouse, restaurant, spa, and hotel are integral to the experience. The warmth of exposed beams and hardwood. The rustic charm of weathered metals. The pleasure of sharing company over drinks or dinner. All contribute to the environment visitors expect from a great getaway.

When the client brought Takeform in to develop a new experiential graphics system, they already had a new identity, but much of the design of the system was yet to be envisioned.

"When we arrived on-site, the client didn't have a direction they wanted to take yet. They were very open to our ideas and expertise when it came to the design process."
- Denielle Wilson, Project Management at Takeform

Visitors come here for a charming, rustic experience. Takeform selected materials and finishes to enhance the feel.
In touring the site, the Takeform team took note of several elements around the complex that served as inspiration for graphics. The facilities featured heavy wood and stonework and reflected the rustic romance of a mountain destination. Which, of course, included the mountains themselves.

Design rendering of Signify signage.
To reflect the spectacular landscape, Takeform developed a theme that included a mountain silhouette to mirror the area's true skyline. The initial draft of this concept included custom Signify signage that featured weathering steel for exterior installations, but amid concern that its rust would discolor nearby surfaces, Takeform specified Chemetal 607 Core Aluminum. It's engineered to provide the desired visual effect via a printed finish and is protected by a durable fluoropolymer coating that stands up to long-term exterior exposure–the best of both worlds.

"We came up with a laminate solution for outside, which was something we hadn't done before—it's not a material approach typically used outdoors. So we had to make sure it could withstand the outside elements. We talked to our fabricators to make sure they were comfortable using this material in an unconventional way."
- Jacob Zimmerman, Design Director at Takeform

Exterior wayfinding is vital to the guest experience, whether as drivers...

or pedestrians.

Within interior spaces, Takeform took advantage of the dominant earthy elements. Where there were wood accents, the team incorporated raised lettering that added a contemporary touch while providing guests with wayfinding guidance. Some pieces were specifically designed to integrate existing design features, like the floor-to-ceiling directories constructed from acrylic to allow the underlying stone to become part of the sign's aesthetic.

The floor-to-ceiling directory integrates decorative stonework into the sign's aesthetic.

Design rendering of an adaptable elevator directory.
"In the resort world, guests are coming to you for an escape, for an experience. We loved this project because it was all about enhancing the experience the client was trying to create."
- Jacob Zimmerman, Design Director at Takeform
