PROJECT HIGHLIGHT
Nextcorps | Going up.
Helping a startup hub remake a storied retail space for tomorrow's legends.
What does a former department store have in common with a high-tech startup incubator? Both have high traffic. Both see new ideas and new products introduced with each passing season. And both have an historic building in common in one city's downtown.

You have arrived. The dimensional logo on the NextCorps brand wall welcomes entrepreneurs and visitors with dramatic brand presence.

Dimensional lettering identifies this unique display of NextCorps member organizations.
A glimpse of the future.
NextCorps, a Rochester, N.Y., business incubator, has become a start-up destination for visionary entrepreneurs from around the globe. The organization provides business expertise, professional connections, and state-of-the-art workspace to dozens of fledgling companies, helping innovators bring their ideas to life, commercialize, and grow. And they do it all from their headquarters in Rochester's historic Sibley Square.

Wayfinding throughout NextCorps offices reflects the brand identity.

Clean design and understated material specification creates highly legible signage that complements NextCorps eclectic space.
A peek at the past.
Once a flagship department store—Sibley's—crowned by a clock tower, this 1.1 million-square foot mixed-use building has undergone more than $100 million in renovations, transforming it into luxury apartments, retail, and office space—including NextCorps, which occupies the building's sixth floor. And there are historic architectural elements that remain carefully preserved within the space, adding to its character. (The clock tower remains, though times have changed.)

Clean sign design complements Nextcorps integration of contemporary aesthetic within its historic space.

Takeform helped NextCorps accommodate historic elements within the space that needed to be preserved, like this ornate wood carving between two areas of the sixth floor.

Takeform's design team created the artwork and renderings for the Amplify window film, elevating Nextcorps' space to a more immersive branded environment.

Refined minimalist design and finishes bring an appropriately technical look to the NextCorps sign system.

One meeting space is named the Tea Room in honor of a famed destination within Sibley's Department Store.
Enter Takeform.
In 2018, as NextCorps planned to move into Sibley Square, it hired Takeform to collaborate with its architecture firm to develop signage for the new space. But in the midst of their plans, the organization also decided it was time to rebrand, which created two challenges at once: meet the unique needs of a space dozens of tech start-ups call home and capture a fresh identity system for a new brand.

Distraction markers reinforce the NextCorps brand on the auditorium doors and glass throughout the space.
Takeform turned out to be an ideal fit to help NextCorps bring its new brand to life with elements as innovative as the entrepreneurial spirit they celebrate. With a new brand came opportunity to develop a rich new experiential graphics system for the client, from logo lettering to window films to ADA signage.
“We worked directly with NextCorps on the branding elements, and once they had their new brand ready to roll out, we were able to shift gears and produce a fresh system for them quickly"
– Cristal Pawlaczyk, Takeform Account Coordinator
A need for speed. A sense of inspiration.
With startup tenants transitioning in and out of NextCorps frequently, workspaces needed to be easy to update—economically—with new signage. The Takeform team worked closely with the client on this and other aspects of their space's unique nature.

One way to make signage easy to update: use Insert Holders with magnetic closures.

This easily updated Freestanding Sign features a directory on one side to help busy startups find their way.

Room IDs for large suites feature a dry erase panel so collaborators can communicate on the fly.
NextCorps has helped hundreds of organizations launch their ideas over the years. Now they have a space that still echoes with the excitement of commerce from another era to inspire everyone they serve.
Thinking about the future of your own branded space? Let's talk.
Find out what NextCorps learned to appreciate about working with Takeform. They found a partner who can work with them on many levels at once, understand the significance of a brand identity to the character of a space, and meets their unique needs with innovative ideas.
