When it came time to break ground on a fresh, exciting new space for seventh- through 12th-graders, Richmond Heights School District' superintendent Dr. Renee T. Willis imagined a dynamic, state-of-the-art facility where students could pursue their most creative, inventive interests. The $26 million project included 88,000 square feet of space, a new community library, and innovative student offerings like a Maker's Space and an aviation program. And part of Dr. Willis' vision: a key role for experiential graphics that would set the tone for an inspiring environment.
“From the beginning of our process, Dr. Willis knew where she wanted to add moments of inspiration, school branding and functional, yet creative, graphic elements."

Robynn Spong, Manufacturers' Representative at Hansen Distribution Agency (HDA),
representing Takeform.
Takeform comes aboard.
As Spong partnered with Martin Public Seating (MPS) to supply the new school's furniture, Takeform was recommended to Dr. Willis as a potential graphics partner. Takeform was invited to the project.

Takeform's focus was on graphics for the middle school section of the facility, including dramatic wall graphics like an Amplify custom wallcovering installation along the school's main corridor. Known as Innovation Alley, the corridor highlights the Maker's Space classrooms along the hallway with visuals representing art, distance learning, aviation, and manufacturing.

The main corridor features a 140-foot-long Amplify installation that highlight's the school's official blue.

The Maker's Space theme wall combines Ethos dimensional letters and Amplify custom wallcovering to create lettering with extra dimension and shadow.

“Dr. Willis wanted an energetic, colorful, and inspiring graphic that created movement and reminded students of the endless opportunities available to them."
- Robynn Spong, Manufacturers' Representative at Hansen Distribution Agency

Soaring themed graphics cover the walls of the flight simulation room that supports the school's Aviation Career Exploration Program.
Takeform also created aviation-themed Amplify graphics for the space that houses the schools' Aviation Career Exploration Program.

Listening and collaboration are key.
It can be challenging to bring someone else's vision to life, but Takeform proved it's possible—with extraordinary results. Spong first worked closely with Dr. Willis, listening carefully to her vision and sharing inspirational images to zero in on an aesthetic direction. Spong then conveyed the design direction to the Takeform team, who took it from there. “The collaboration was very fluid between the superintendent and Takeform," Spong says. Dr. Willis agrees.

In another nod to aviation, Moxie graphic panels feature a quote from Dr. Willis on the staircase of the school that reads, “Welcome to Richmond Heights High School. The final steps before takeoff."
“Takeform was able to hear my vision but also meet with some community members to hear theirs," Dr. Willis says. “then able to combine different ideas and come up with a unique, cohesive approach. The concepts they presented gave our building a college feel, which has elevated expectations for both staff and students."
“We listened, collaborated, and managed the process, And in the end, Takeform delivered an exceptional product that students and faculty really love," Spong says.

The Tech Commons entrance that leads to the Maker's Space features Ethos Dimensional Letters, cable-mounted graphics, and window films inspired by transistors.

Strong reviews pour in.
Dr. Willis notes that Takeform's experiential graphics have helped create a positive school culture, particularly after having been away from in-person for almost two years. “When students returned from COVID remote learning, they walked into a newness that was much needed," Dr. Willis says. “It has accelerated our COVID recovery endeavors. Other district teams have taken tours of our new building, and they continually comment on the feel that the graphics create." She adds, “This new atmosphere was electrifying."
