PROJECT HIGHLIGHT
YMCA of Greater Rochester – Schottland Family Branch
Wellbeing motivates a New York community to put powerful design to work.

Up and running in record time.
When Takeform teamed up with the YMCA's national interior design partner, GRO, on New York State's largest Y facility, the project had already broken ground and the concrete and steel framing were appearing on the construction site in Pittsford, N.Y. While GRO had done some preliminary planning and conceptual work with a previous firm, they turned to Takeform for end-to-end design-build-installation service that would be ready in record time.

With six months till opening day, we were in for a workout.
Starting with a kickoff meeting and site visit in June 2019, GRO helped Takeform get to know the Y brand, understand the space and the textures and materials it would feature, and convey their vision.
a sprawling 140,000 square-foot center where families converge for everything from aquatics to cooking classes to childcare.

The Schottland Family Branch in Pittsford would be more than a gym; it'd be a sprawling 140,000 square-foot center where families converge for everything from aquatics to cooking classes to childcare. From wayfinding to wall graphics to interior and exterior signage, its varied spaces needed distinctive visual cues, while still tying the entire complex together under one brand. And that's just what we did: doors opened for the 2019 holidays.
But our Y workout wasn't done.
In fact, we were just warming up. Through our happy partnership with GRO, Takeform has worked with more than 30 Y branches to date, some on rebranding, others on signage related to reopening following Covid-19 closures.
Adding Takeform to the equation has made life easier for GRO because they have the benefit of a sizable team who knows the work, all with a single point of contact to keep things simple and efficient. Just the kind of well-trained strength and agility you need when you're covering millions of square feet across multiple locations.

Expressing gratitude. Takeform created this multidimensional recognition wall to acknowledge major donors, using materials and finishes that complemented the surrounding space.

High-intensity graphics. From playful collages to athletic silhouettes, experiential graphics convey the purpose of each space.

Photo finish. Takeform helps the Y make local connections with large wall graphics displaying scenes from the surrounding community.

Cool factor. When designing graphics for the Y's teen center, we gave the space an appealing tech-inspired vibe.

Cooking up something fierce. We helped bring the Y's unique energy to every space, including their inspired teaching kitchen.

Throughout the 140k square feet Y expresses it's brand at every level – from immersive wall graphics to fresh room identification signs.
