PROJECT HIGHLIGHT
Rochester General Hospital
Performing on every level.
As the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care rose, Takeform was there.
In 2020, Rochester Regional Health (RRH) opened its seven-story, 312,000-square-foot new building on its flagship Rochester General Hospital (RGH) campus to meet the growing needs of the surrounding region. The Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care features private suites along with a new surgical center, women's health and newborn care, intensive care, oncology, and more. All state of the art.
As the building's superstructure took shape in 2018, so did signage preparations with longtime collaborator Takeform. RGH has worked with Takeform on a range of projects, but this initiative marked something on a grander scale: a new build whose fresh signage and graphics approach will ultimately influence the rest of the sprawling campus and entire health system. Takeform's involvement on this ambitious project began at the end of 2019. Manufacturing and installation began in August 2020.

“This is the largest project Rochester Regional has taken on since the early 1980s – it's the project of a lifetime."

Vivid delivers every sign type. Shown here: ADA room sign and directory.
The look and feel.
The new signage standard features a light, clean, modern feel—a contrast to the more classic look of the current wood-inspired system in the existing hospital space. Takeform's Vivid signage platform delivered the new sign standard in a way that complements the earlier signage aesthetic. This complementary strategy eliminates a potential aesthetic clash, allowing for a phased campus-wide transition to the new standard over time. Plus, for healthcare settings, Vivid is engineered to provide the added benefit of easy-to-clean, smooth one-piece construction.

A sign of great taste.
The new facility features a Wolfgang Puck-branded eatery. Takeform engineered and manufactured the sophisticated entrance sign based on brand specifications. It's arched construction and illuminated push-through letters integrate seamlessly into the feature wall, adding a dramatic focal point for visitors and staff. Within, we delivered on-brand dimensional lettering and inspiring local photography on our Moxie graphic panel system.

Local photographers' work has a starring role.
With Rochester's world-renowned photography heritage in mind, the Wolfgang Puck brand specified that local photography be featured throughout the dining area. So, they selected works by Joshua Headley and James Montanus from among the many submissions RGH provided. With approval from the Wolfgang Puck team, Takeform produced large-format photographs on its Moxie graphic panel platform. This implementation marked an enthusiastic departure from the brands long-standing acrylic display standard.

Attend Patient Room Signs support effective care and aesthetic integrity.
Clarity, security, and style.
RGH chose Takeform's Attend patient room signs for the platform's user-friendly integration of locking patient alerts, custom inserts, and on-brand aesthetics.
Installation in the era of COVID-19.
Any major construction project has multiple contributors in and out of the site every day. To protect those teams from COVID risk, RGH designated discrete work areas for each company. Takeform set up an isolated logistics hub from which every aspect of the project could be managed while doing its part to keep everyone safe. The Takeform team also shifted gears in the order of production and installation to accommodate RGH as they reversed the original top-to-bottom order of floor completion, instead working bottom to top, in order to bring more beds online faster during the pandemic.
And with Takeform, RGH got the special care they needed, too.
As RGH takes care of its community, Takeform looked out for RGH throughout every project phase. From collaborating with their branding firm to offering innovative product approaches to solving the wide range of challenges that come with such an ambitious project, we were there with them every step of the way.
“Takeform is always able to bring something else to the table for us."
