Spartanburg Pet Resource Center

Spartanburg County, South Carolina

Designed by SHLTR Architects, the new Spartanburg Pet Resource Center was envisioned as more than an animal shelter – it was created to be a welcoming, uplifting destination that strengthens the connection between people and pets. From the earliest stages of the project, the architecture firm had a clear vision for how the facility should look, feel, and function, with experiential graphics and signage playing a key role in shaping the visitor experience.

To help bring that vision to life, SHLTR Architects partnered with Takeform as a turnkey graphics and signage provider. The project required a team capable of translating highly detailed design concepts into fully realized solutions across the facility. Working closely alongside SHLTR, Takeform developed a comprehensive program that included interior and exterior signage, and custom graphics.

A Sense of Paws

Takeform helped to transform the vision into an environment that supports the center's mission at every touchpoint. From signage and wayfinding to graphics and storytelling elements, each solution was thoughtfully integrated to create a space that feels welcoming, emotionally engaging, and authentic to the bond between people and pets.

Bringing a Detailed Vision to Life

Having worked with Takeform previously, the SHLTR team recognized the depth of our design, engineering, fabrication, and project management capabilities, making us a natural fit to deliver a turnkey program for the new Pet Resource Center.

Takeform collaborated closely with the architectural team throughout the process, developing solutions that preserved the original design intent while ensuring each element could be successfully manufactured, installed, and maintained within the facility.

Every Detail Designed

Takeform's design team developed the project's pet graphics through custom photo compositing, digital illustration, and image manipulation. Each image was carefully crafted to capture the specific breeds and personalities envisioned by the client, then brought to life as larger-than-life installations on Moxie graphic panels throughout the facility. Custom watercolor elements further unified the space and reinforced its warm, welcoming character.

In addition to graphics, the project included a complete signage system – with interior and exterior signs designed to support the visitor journey from arrival through adoption.

Exterior Signage

The exterior wayfinding establishes a welcoming arrival and strong sense of place from the moment visitors approach the facility. Utilizing Takeform's Signify and Ethos product lines alongside custom-designed elements, the system balances visibility, durability, and architectural integration while reinforcing the center's identity.

Built Into the Experience

Projects like the Spartanburg Pet Resource Center demonstrate the value of considering graphics and signage early in the design process. When thoughtfully integrated with architecture, these elements do more than help people find their way – they create moments of connection, reinforce a mission, and shape how a space is experienced long after the first visit.
