Ethos custom lettering on the new building lives within a rail system that represents the company's systems.
When this Fortune 500 high-tech manufacturer began planning its new global headquarters in Solon, Ohio, in 2014, they had a vision for bringing together the most important aspects of their identity: innovation, heritage, customers, and staff. Mission accomplished.

Directional signage guides people as they arrive at the new HQ.
The new Swagelok Global Headquarters and Innovation Center connects the company's main plant, corporate offices, a laboratory, and a customer collaboration center through a gleaming glass and metal three-story space.

The 15-foot-long Swagelok monument sign glows in blue lighting.
Swagelok, provider of fluid system products, assemblies, and services for a range of industries, employs 270 at the new building—with room to add 350 more. And with continued growth and a need for collaborative innovation comes a need for a space that's easy to navigate. Which is why Cleveland-based A&D firm Vocon partnered with Takeform to provide on-brand exterior and interior signage worthy of Swagelok's $35 million, 124,000-square-foot project.

Executing on a vision.
Takeform joined the effort through a longtime relationship with Vocon. “Takeform has partnered with Vocon on many signage projects," says Robynn Spong, Hansen Distribution Agency representative who works with Takeform. “For the Swagelok project, Vocon had done the design work and needed Takeform's capabilities for fabrication and installation."
Bringing Vocon's design vision to life throughout the new HQ involved producing a variety of elements, from larger-than-life exterior pieces to interior lettering for glass walls, room IDs, and directional signage.

Pristine signage complements Swagelok's fresh contemporary space.

The Takeform team worked closely with Vocon to make the selected design concept a reality. Together, the A&D firm and Takeform reviewed initial location plans and concept renderings, then tweaked details to ensure code compliance—and feasibility. The tailored nature of many elements required collaboration.

The company's Customer Collaboration Center entrance features Ethos custom lettering.

“The interior signage was a custom design that required working hand in hand with Vocon and our customs and purchasing departments to achieve the required design aesthetic."
- Marlena Lloyd, Client Advisor at Takeform
Tackling a potential slippery slope.
Unexpected site conditions complicated the work of installing some exterior signage. The sites had inadequate soil compaction which Takeform advised would lead to long-term complications for the signage and beyond. To make sure everything had a stable footing, Takeform worked with the client to achieve proper conditions for effective installation.

This exterior stone wall, made from salvaged stone, features Ethos custom lettering.

“When surprises happen, we're ready to adapt, and this was definitely a surprise—soft soil would have comprised the integrity of the sign installation, possibly leading to the collapse of a nearby sidewalk."
- Marlena Lloyd, Client Advisor at Takeform

Ultimately, all parties involved came together to make sure the installation was safe and timely. The result: a happy client and an exciting new space where their team and their customers can come together for their own collaborations.
