Install & Beyond:
Serving behavioral health patients from intake to ongoing recovery in a single facility is the mission of Be Well, a public-private partnership in Orange County, California. Their innovation was to do it in a warm and welcoming environment that moves past the sterile, clinical aesthetic of years past but maintains the highest caliber of patient and staff safety.
A 60,000-square-foot, three-story complex was built from the ground up. A compelling brand look was also built. Takeform came on board before ground was broken to support a range of experiential elements to outfit their space, from room and code signage to custom wall coverings and window films; dimensional letters and logos as well as suite IDs.
Our task was to ensure brand messages were consistent, patient and staff safety always considered and to ensure patients would feel at ease and at home, so healing could happen.

Capabilities Applied
Experiential Graphic Design
As part of the design team from the start, we were able to deepen our understanding of the brand and the unique needs of a behavioral health facility. We translated Be Well’s branding firm's work to built environment in ways both welcoming through messaged wall graphics and thoughtful through a cohesive, practical three-tiered risk level signage system.
Engineering
To heal, patients need to be safe and feel safe. To do their best work, staff need the same. Every element we engineered for Be Well centered patient and staff safety at the forefront. The three-tiered signage system we developed meet the acuity level required by each department. In high acuity areas, for example, we designed secure, break-proof, single-layer, smooth-edged products. In all areas, dimensional lettering and logos were engineered for safety.
Manufacturing
We manufacture for durability on every project. For Be Well, we also ensured we were meeting the strictly-engineered acuity-level requirements for patient and staff safety. That meant paying special attention to the finish of every edge and how every component was fastened.
Products
High Acuity: For the highest level of safety precaution with unsupervised patient use, a single layer low-profile variation of the sign system features only the white face.
No Acuity: For no risk factors areas with no patient use, we created a three-layered sign design. A white face meets a backer printed with branded graphics and a second backer with silver high-pressure laminate.
Low Acuity: For low-risk areas where patient access is controlled or use is supervised, a two-layer signage design provides the appropriate level precaution. It includes white face layer and printed backer only.
Acuity tiered interior signage | Vivid
Be Well serves three acuity levels of behavioral health patients. We designed, manufactured and installed interior signage that was cohesive, ADA-compliant and reinforced the brand. that meets the material, fabrication, and installation requirements of all three.
Dimensional logos & lettering | Ethos
Our Ethos line was the ideal choice to provide on-brand dimensional lettering – including the lobby logo installed on a stone wall – that also met patient and staff safety considerations for a public area of a behavioral health space.
Custom Wallcoverings | Amplify
Impactful brand statements – from a visual and an emotional level – came courtesy of Amplify wallcoverings. Graphics and affirmations like “Healing happens here.” and "Trust happens here.” were printed on the subtly textured Mystical paste-up family of the Amplify product.
Custom Window Films | Amplify
Meeting rooms at Be Well leveraged Amplify window films to provide a privacy for sensitive conversations while still filtering in light. These window films also featured enlarged depictions of Be Well’s logomark, a subtle opportunity to reinforce brand and sense of place.
Acrylic Graphic Panels
Door-height panels featuring welcoming and reassuring graphic patterns. Large room numbers make navigation a breeze. Metal accent hardware connects with the overall aesthetic.
Code and Life-Safety Signage
Even essential signage can be designed to compliment. At Be Well, the code and life-safety signage shares the same radiused-corner shape and subtle brand graphics. Cohesiveness can be a calming, comforting force while also maintaining stringent compliance and ensuring patient and staff safety.
